Space bat
Oh wow, I do love watching a space launch. Thinking about the Artemis II astronauts up there right now is mindblowing. However, I was thinking this week about why I think it’s so exciting, especially considering that the use of money and the environmental impact of space travel go against almost everything I believe in terms of caring for what we already ‘have’ here on Earth.
When I really thought about it, I realised I get the exact same feeling of excitement and awe from ‘just’ going outside and looking at the stars. Which I could do, let’s see … oh, every day.1
Here’s that same thought in photo form. It’s a frame from a video I took a few years back when I lived in St Leonards-on-Sea, looking out at the night sky from our living room. The moon is there. But so is a big bat stealing the show to say, ‘Erm, I think you’ll find all the cool stuff you ever need to experience is already right here in front of you’.
Sure, if it’s cloudy, simply think: ‘Whoa! Behind those clouds: stars!’, or even: ‘Clouds are so cool!’

Space bat! I love it. I’ve just been walking through the woods near Hastings, enjoying all the wood anemones (little white flowers) and thinking they’re like a carpet of stars ✨
